About |
I'm Kathryn, a seasoned book editor specialising in children's fiction and educational content, particularly Literacy, English and History products. I've worked on a number of phonics reading schemes, as well as on a variety of subjects from KS2 to A-Level.
I love working with new authors to carefully guide them through the editorial process to ensure their finished book meets the highest possible standard. Whether you plan on traditional or self-publishing, I can help you find your way to publication. |
How do I know?
I've been in the publishing industry since 2005, and have worked with publishers such as Oxford University Press, Pearson Education, Macmillan Education and Dorling Kindersley. I've focused most of my efforts on Literacy products designed to not just help children learn to read, but to instil a love of reading. I'm also an author, having written books for Collins Education, thousands of assessment questions for Educake, and home learning material for Hodder Education. I work with a number of independent authors, helping them to develop and shape their manuscripts. I also volunteer in a local primary school, helping KS2 children with their reading.
I've always believed in the power of storytelling, and there is a particular kind of magic involved when a book really captures a reader's imagination. That's what I want to help you to create. To get the best from our working relationship, I take the time to get to know your story – and not just the pages you have written. I take the time to understand you, your writing, and your goals for your career as an author.

What next?
Get in touch for an informal chat about your project, and about how I can help you to make the best of your writing. I will ask you some questions about what you've written already, any feedback you've already received, and what you hope to achieve, both in terms of an individual book and your career as a whole. Depending on the project, I can also perform a short sample edit to help you see the way I work and to help us see if we would work well together.
Working with Kathryn at Refresh Editorial absolutely lived up to the name. I had an old unpublished manuscript which no longer felt like my current writing style and needed a serious overhaul. Having Kathryn on board gave me both structural/development insights as well as a very thorough line edit to clear out clunky phrasing. Kathryn communicated clearly throughout with me and I'd recommend her work to any writer wanting to ensure their work has impact and is polished.
